new Topix Pharmaceuticals product to prevent and correct UV damage, cannabis wholesaler Veritas Fine Cannabis launches skincare brand GALYNA
☀️🧪Regenerative Sun Care
White-label, medical-grade skincare maker Topix Pharmaceuticals Inc. introduced a new product this month: ProteXidine Discoloration Defense.
The product fits somewhere within the realm of reparative or regenerative skincare, as it promises to “prevent and correct visible discoloration caused by UV damage,” according to a dedicated site promoting this new product to dermatologists and other skincare professionals. Further claims on the site are “visibly brightens skin,” “supports healthy collagen,” and “helps maintain even skin tone.”
Key ingredients in the ProteXidineTM Discoloration Defense formula include ProteXidineTM, hexylresorcinol, arbutin, and hexanoyl dipeptide-3. And it’s the ProteXidineTM that is making headlines here.
ProteXidineTM is a patented ingredient used under license from the University of Minnesota Center for Drug Design. In this month’s press release, it is described as a “biomimetic decoy molecule” that both restrains the production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and also reduces and clears the production of Cyclobutane Pyrimidine Dimers (CPDs)—both of which result from UV exposure.
“At Topic, we pride ourselves on investing in scientific innovation and providing our partners with the latest in skincare technology for their patients,” says Brenda Wu, President and CEO of Topix Pharmaceuticals, in the press release. “We're so excited about the promise of ProteXidine and what it means for future protection against UV damage, a universal problem we all face.” Research on ProteXidineTM continues at the University of Minnesota; click here for details.
🌿🧪Encapsulated CBD
Colorado, US – based cannabinoid skincare brand GALYNA launches nationwide with a small product line formulated with an encapsulated CBD and (in select States) encapsulated THC.
The brand has been in the works since 2018, when formulation and development began under the prospective brand name Avér Skin. In 2022, the venture was rebranded to GALYNA. And in 2023 the brand’s first three products went on sale in Colorado dispensaries.
Toby Ripsom, Co-Founder and Head of Finance at recreational cannabis wholesaler Veritas Fine Cannabis, serves as CEO of the GALYNA brand. “My decade of experience building Veritas Fine Cannabis into one of Colorado’s top cultivation companies has allowed me to understand and help create what consumers are looking for—products that deliver on the ingredients’ promise,” says Ripsom in his recent remarks to the press.
In this case what Ripson and his team have created is a patent-pending molecule that encapsulates the CBD (or THC) thereby, as you would expect, stabilizing it and acting as an ingredient delivery mechanism.
And Dr. Marnie Peterson, Chief Scientific Officer of GALYNA emphasizes that “by focusing on active ingredients and their benefits, rather than the novelty of possibilities, the GALYNA formulations are universally replicable for proven results.”
The brand’s products—a healing balm, a rejuvenating cream, and a pain relief cream—retail online (GALYNA has its own ecommerce site) as well as in some spas, skin care clinics, retail boutiques, tattoo shops, and hotels.
